irector General, Office of Transformation, Creativity & Innovation, Mr. Toba Otusanya; Commissioner for Science & Technology, Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi; his counterpart for Information & Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science & Technology, Mr. Fola Padonu during a press briefing on the launching of an Online Platform to interact with Citizens at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
The Lagos State Government on Thursday launched a mobile app to facilitate interaction and provision of services between government and the citizens from the comfort of their homes and offices without necessarily paying a visit to government establishments where such services are being provided.
The mobile app, otherwise known as Citizens Gate under the Citizens Relations Management (CRM) initiative, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and would avail residents of the State the opportunity to make enquiry and suggestions on government services and getting faster responses.
Addressing a joint press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, the State’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi, said the launch of the web platform was another initiative of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration aimed at bringing government closer to the people.
Odubiyi, who addressed the briefing alongside the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and the Director General of Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Mr. Toba Otusanya, described the Citizens Gate as an intuitive-based technology innovation designed to manage relationship between the citizens and government.
He said: “The Citizens Gate is an integrated web and mobile-based platform through which Lagos State’s citizens can lodge feedback to the State Government on various services provided, receive quick responses on services as well as interact with government officials via web and mobile phone.
“The platform is designed to promote communication and connectivity between citizens and government while it will also enable citizens to inform the government on problems and issues occurring in their areas, communities and beyond.”
The Commissioner added that the platform would also afford citizens the opportunity to enquire about government services while also providing an avenue to make suggestions on government services for better confidence and trust in the present administration led by Governor Ambode.
According to Odubiyi, the platform can be accessed via citizensgate.lagosstate.gov.ng and a downloadable mobile app from Google play store and Apple store both on Android and iOS, while the platform would enable government to acknowledge problems and issues which would be investigated, worked on and resolved efficiently and timely.
He said apart from the fact that the development would improve the State budget thus making planning a lot easier and preventing waste and encouraging savings that will aid in provision of more services and development, the platform would further help government to determine which programme of the State is working and whether to replace or improve on any programme for efficient and effective service delivery to the people.
In his remarks, Otusanya said the platform has been designed initially to accommodate 22 MDAs of government and same will be scaled up to cover all MDAs in the near future.
He said government officials have been trained to be in charge of the platform in all the initial MDAs, while citizens with no access to internet can call the Command Centre on 767 and a ticket will be issued instantly on their behalf.

Springsoca United team
In this age when been young is almost synonymous with frivolous perceptions, there is one young man who is doing a great job helping the youths of Lekki Peninsula out of the vicious circle of idleness and poverty using football as a tool. Oladapo Olawale Emmanuel, boss of Springsoca Sports Academy Limited, scouts, nurture and help source for clubs for young football talents within the peninsula and beyond and he’s being successful at it!
The Football academy which started in 2008 with six youths playing soccer for fun at a field in jakande, Lekki, has grown to a fully registered football academy with more than 36 active young footballers, producing a number of nationally recognized talents as they carved a niche chasing the round leather object.

Among their recent achievements, the springsoca academy lads emerged winners at the Pele legend tournament organised by WJ/YEDA FOUNDATION which had top youth academies in Lagos like the COD united football club Under18 team paticipating. The event which witnessed the presence of top football dignitaries and ex-internationals such as VictorAgali, Victor Ikpeba and a host of others, saw the academicals give a good account of themselves as they scaled through every stage to win the coveted trophy.
The springsoca academy U18 team further participated in a 64 youth team tournament drawn from West Africa tagged Frank Peters Cup and emerged quarterfinalist after they lost on penalties to Iwere fc of Delta state.

The academy also recorded another great height in 2016 when its female Team youth player Folashade Ijamilusi represented Nigeria at the concluded FIFA women under 17 world cup in Jordan.
While speaking with LEKKI PEOPLE magazine, Oladapo looked back to how it all began.,
"Back in those days, it started with about 6 idle youths, with dedication and constant training, our size increased to about 12, then we were able to form a team. We trained hard, adapting international training routines and then we started winning trophies.
It was when our players started getting trials in Europe and South Africa that we decided to formalize the operations of the academy by registering it with the right government agencies.”

He said further, “Nigeria is a football loving country and every child, both male and female love to play the game; they know the average rules of the game.
“Those children who show signs of great promises can be nipped at the bud and encouraged through training and other support.

“If some of these children get the best training facility like their counterparts in developed countries, we will be amazed at what depth of talent is available in our country, and this is what we want to do – give these lads the best training facilities ever!
“Funding is tough for us. We use the best training equipment comparable to those used in developed parts of the world and we are improving on our connections with major football clubs at home and abroad”, he concluded

While he expressed joy and optimism at the height the academy is aiming to attain, he however call on well meaning individuals to support the academicals as they aspire to become one of the best football academy in the world.
