Weekend blues: How my Husband became my Wife..
Our first meeting took place in our high school psychology class and we soon became friends, talking a lot on the phone, as teenagers did back then. We dated briefly, but our relationship was short lived.
After some time apart after I went off to college, we reconnected, and after that, it all happened quickly: Our relationship bloomed, we fell in love, and we moved closer to one another to be together. After three years, I was proposed to. I knew this was who I was supposed to marry because we had split up once and gotten back together, unable to be apart.
But when my spouse came out to me as transgender, and later made a gender transition, my world was thrown upside down
There was a lot that changed but what I didn’t anticipate were the questions and public scrutiny that would surround my sexuality. I had only ever identified as straight, but by staying in a marriage with a trans woman, this identification was challenged.
According to gay people, I had to identify as a lesbian in order to validate my wife’s gender identity. But according to the court of public opinion on the internet, by doing this, I would single-handedly prove the conservative opinion that gay people can change their sexuality — that being gay is a choice.
Straight people just had questions; they could not wrap their heads around how I could be attracted to the now-feminine body of my wife when I was, for all intents and purposes, only attracted to men.
So what am I, and where do I stand? What does this say about the nature of sexuality? Is this about love, or is sexuality truly fluid and our physical attractions change over time?
Well, I don’t have all the answers, but I’ve been forced to dig deep and make evaluations both of myself and of society as a whole. And as a result of much introspection, I am beginning to look at sexuality as more fluid than people seem to realize it is.
I have a friend who identified her whole life as a lesbian, but fell in love with and married a man. I know a person who, after divorcing her husband, ended up in a relationship with her best female friend. I have multiple friends who left heterosexual marriages when they realized they were gay.
I know other women like myself whose spouses’ transitioned genders, and who stayed post-Gender Confirmation Surgery. I can’t speak to their experiences or sexuality, but I can say that I personally stayed because I loved my husband and I knew I could love my wife as well. My spouse, regardless of gender, makes me laugh, is kind to others, is politically active, shares the same political opinions as me, and has the same geeky loves as I do, including, but certainly not limited to, Harry Potter, Star Wars, andDoctor Who. We had a great life together and a beautiful son.
I didn’t want to leave. And so, I stayed.
Physical differences in my wife are becoming more apparent by the day. At first it was the removal of hair, the application of makeup, and the growth of her head hair. Then came the changes of medical transition: the growth of breasts, the development of hips and a waistline, and the softening of her facial features.
Through these changes, I’ve remained attracted to my spouse. I find her new look to be beautiful in the way I have always been able to find other women beautiful, but the attraction is deeper since we have an emotional connection as well. The fact that I love her and care about her deeply translates into physical attraction; our love was always more than skin deep. I joke that I married her so that my children would have her eyes, and that is one part of her physical appearance that has not changed. She still has those beautiful blue eyes, with those gorgeous long eyelashes.
There was a time when I mourned the loss of her more manly features — even her chest hair, which ironically prior to coming out I was not a huge fan of — but that longing is gone.
I don’t understand why or how I still find her sexually attractive; all I can say is that I do. It does not mean I find cis women appealing in the same way, which is why this attraction may stem from the love I had for my wife prior to transition.
Staying with a trans woman means going against what we are taught by society about sexuality and gender. In an ideal world, people would fit nicely into one category: gay, straight, bisexual . . . but they don’t. I learned this the hard way, by being thrust into the world of unknown sexuality.
And now, having explored my sexuality in an entirely new way, I wonder: If people were not put into these boxes — if people truly were able to enjoy what they do and love who they love regardless of gender identity or sexuality — what would the world look like? Would it be a better place? Would everyone be happier?
At the end of the day, all I know is that sexuality is deeply personal and private. I know that I now identify as queer, and that no well-defined box can contain me.
And, really, that’s all anyone needs to know.

ARSENAL TABLES $113 MILLION BID FOR MBAPPE
Kylian Mbappe |
Arsenal may not win the race to sign Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, but it’s going to make sure its competition pays through the nose for the talented striker.
Mbappe, who’s been widely compared to Gunners legend Thierry Henry, is reportedly being pursued by Manchester City and Real Madrid in addition to Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger has fired the first shot.
According to L’Equipe, Arsenal has made a bid of approximately $113 million for the 18-year-old, who won’t hit 19 until Dec. 20.
Mbappe piled up 26 goals and 14 assists this season, six of those in nine UEFA Champions League appearances (all six came in the knockout rounds).
The player has said he’s not afraid to leave Monaco. Will he join Henry and Wenger as joining Arsenal once removed from the Ligue 1 outfit?

Desmond Majekodunmi Flag off SAVE LEKKI COAST CAMPAIGN
DESMOND MAJEKODUNMI |
The campaign rally began from the Lekki Conservation Center
on Saturday 29th of April, with a brief, but very clear statement of
intent, after which the horde of press men and women from diverse media houses
across board were ferried to the sites of this erosion for firsthand
experience.
The Apese community located at the barb-wire area, East-end of
Alfa Beach was worse hit by this scourge as the sea had taken about 1.5km of their
land, leaving them with less than 30m to the ocean line.
At the moment thousands of sand bags are being used by the villagers to combat the erosion but these are only temporary measures as huge ocean surge can easily wear them off.
According to Desmond Majekodunmi, what is needed to salvage the situation is the construction of more sea groins, which he said will cost hundreds of millions. “The situation is dire and calls for Federal government attention
because it is in their jurisdiction.” He said.
He also commended the effort of the Lagos state government whom he acknowledges
to have spent hundreds of millions of Naira in fighting this scourge.

LAGOS LAUNCHES FIRST ONLINE PLATFORM TO INTERACT WITH CITIZENS
Story Source: Lagos State Govt.
The Lagos State Government on Thursday launched a
mobile app to facilitate interaction and provision of services between
government and the citizens from the comfort of their homes and offices without
necessarily paying a visit to government establishments where such services are
being provided.
The mobile app, otherwise known as Citizens Gate under the
Citizens Relations Management (CRM) initiative, is the first of its kind in
Nigeria, and would avail residents of the State the opportunity to make enquiry
and suggestions on government services and getting faster responses.
Addressing a joint press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press
Centre in Alausa, the State’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr.
Olufemi Odubiyi, said the launch of the web platform was another initiative of
the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration aimed at bringing government
closer to the people.
Odubiyi, who addressed the briefing alongside the Commissioner
for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and the Director General of
Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Mr. Toba
Otusanya, described the Citizens Gate as an intuitive-based technology
innovation designed to manage relationship between the citizens and government.
He said: “The Citizens Gate is an integrated web and mobile-based
platform through which Lagos State’s citizens can lodge feedback to the State
Government on various services provided, receive quick responses on services as
well as interact with government officials via web and mobile phone.
“The platform is designed to promote communication and
connectivity between citizens and government while it will also enable citizens
to inform the government on problems and issues occurring in their areas,
communities and beyond.”
The Commissioner added that the platform would also afford
citizens the opportunity to enquire about government services while also
providing an avenue to make suggestions on government services for better
confidence and trust in the present administration led by Governor Ambode.
According to Odubiyi, the platform can be accessed via citizensgate.lagosstate.gov.ng and a downloadable mobile
app from Google play store and Apple store both on Android and iOS, while the
platform would enable government to acknowledge problems and issues which would
be investigated, worked on and resolved efficiently and timely.
He said apart from the fact that the development would improve
the State budget thus making planning a lot easier and preventing waste and
encouraging savings that will aid in provision of more services and
development, the platform would further help government to determine which
programme of the State is working and whether to replace or improve on any
programme for efficient and effective service delivery to the people.
In his remarks, Otusanya said the platform has been designed
initially to accommodate 22 MDAs of government and same will be scaled up to
cover all MDAs in the near future.
He said government officials have been trained to be in charge
of the platform in all the initial MDAs, while citizens with no access to
internet can call the Command Centre on 767 and a ticket will be issued
instantly on their behalf.

WOW! JOHN CENA PROPOSE TO LONG TIME GIRLFRIEND, NIKKI BELLA ON TV!
John Cena proposed to
longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella on live TV at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday night,
in a move the 39-year-old star said he had been planning for a year and a half.
“I found the absolute right person,” Cena, 39, said of his fiancée
during a Monday appearance on the Today show. “A strong person that I consider
an inspiration, an equal. Somebody who when I’m feeling down picks me up.
Somebody when she’s down I can pick her up.”
In front of the screaming WrestleMania crowd, Cena dropped to one
knee and asked 33-year-old Bella to marry him. (See the ring here!) Bella said on Monday that
although she never expected Cena to pop the question in such a place, she’s
glad he did.
“I never actually would’ve thought that he would propose in front
of all those people, but that’s home for us,” she said of the WWE ring.
“It’s where we met. It’s our passion, it’s our life and so, for
me, it was kinda like he’s my prince charming and he’s just saying I want her
to be my queen at her home and in front of our family. Honestly, I couldn’t
have asked for it to be any other way. It was perfect.”
Bella added: “I was shocked and I couldn’t have said ‘yes’ quick
enough.”
Cena and Bella have been dating for nearly five years and their
relationship has been documented on the hit E! reality shows Total
Divas and Total
Bellas.
The proposal came after the wrestling couple defeated the Miz and
his wife Maryse during a tag-team match, which Cena called a dream come true

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA TO HIT 195 MILLION BY 2030!
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) are expected to welcome 195 million international tourists by 2030. Between 25 million and 50 million new jobs will be required in the region over the next decade. Over 20 Ministers and industry leaders will gather at the Ministerial Forum to discuss how tourism can play a role in the future of the MENA region.
Visitors to the MENA region will total 195 million by 2030,
growing at a rate higher than the world average, according to figures by the
World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
The rapid development of the sector will form part of the
discussion at the UNWTO & ATM Ministerial Forum at the Arabian Travel
Market, taking place on April 24 in the Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab
Emirates. The Forum, an official event of the International Year of Sustainable
Tourism for Development 2017 returns to ATM this year, with a particular focus
on the contribution of tourism to sustainable economic growth and economic
diversification of the MENA region.
“Tourism is an increasingly important sector to support the
economic diversification of the region. In addition to generating foreign
exchange earnings and creating jobs, tourism promotes trade and investment and
significantly contributes to the development of other sectors of the economy -
such as construction, manufacture, retail and financial services.” said UNWTO
Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.
Simon Press, Senior Exhibition Director, ATM, said: “The Middle
East has experienced huge changes since the UNWTO Ministers Forum was last held
at ATM back in 2015. This year will reflect the pace and level of that
development, uniting more than 20 ministers with industry leaders in the MENA
region to consider methods of capitalising on tourism growth and building a
sustainable ecosystem for the sector to unlock its potential within each
country’s National Agenda. Specific areas of focus will include GDP growth and
economic diversification, innovation, entrepreneurship and productivity, job
creation, human capital and infrastructure development, investment and export
promotion.”
The Forum is one of a number of events in the year-long
programme of official activities of the International Year of Sustainable
Tourism for Development 2017.
In his message on the occasion of the Year, United Nations
Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said: “Tourism has become a pillar of
economies, a passport to prosperity, and a transformative force for improving
millions of lives. The world can and must harness the power of tourism as we
strive to carry out the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
Taking place on Monday, 24 April from 3.30pm, the Forum will be
held under the patronage of H.E. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of
Economy of the United Arab Emirates. This will follow the 42nd meeting of the
UNWTO Commission for the Middle East which is being held at 10am in the
morning.
The Forum will address the following issues:
- Empowering evidence based decision making and accurate
measurement of the contribution of tourism to current and future economic
growth - particularly as regards GDP, jobs and exports - and its multiplier
effect on other sectors of the economy.
- Enhancing the contribution of domestic tourism alongside
international tourism (especially intra-regional) in delivering sustainable
economic growth from the sector.
- Main challenges and opportunities for securing investment in
tourism (FDI and domestic investment).
- Strategies and measures to strengthen tourism’s resilience to
external shocks.
- Ensuring that economic growth due to tourism leads to the
sustainable and inclusive development of host communities and the transition
towards a green economy.
- Investing in technology - driven innovations to enhance
performance and improve competitiveness.
- Policies to promote job creation and entrepreneurship
- Strengthening the sector’s institutional framework, engaging
and aligning key governmental role players on tourism policy issues and targets
and developing result driven partnerships with local and international
stakeholders.
