Esther Etiyemonu: The Day Lagos Was Led by a Child

     Gov Esther Etiyemonu been welcome
by the Lagos State commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun (Lekki People)
For one unforgettable day in Alausa, leadership wore a school uniform.

Miss Esther Etiyemonu, winner of the 21st Lagos State Spelling Bee, stepped into history as Lagos’ One-Day Governor, leading a cabinet made up of some of the state’s brightest young minds. From the moment she arrived at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, it was clear this was more than a ceremonial visit—it was a powerful glimpse into the future of governance.

Poised and attentive, Esther listened as the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, guided her and her team through the inner workings of government—how policies are shaped, institutions strengthened, and young lives transformed through education. She asked thoughtful questions, took notes, and carried herself with the confidence of a leader in the making.

By her side were fellow winners: Miss Dorcas Awoyemi, the One-Day Deputy Governor, Miss Jumai Salami, the One-Day Secretary to the State Government, and other cabinet members who had only recently stood on a spelling stage, yet now walked the corridors of power with purpose.
