The Diaspora Innovation Institute—a global think-tank focused on migration, diaspora engagement, innovation, and development—is set to host the Diaspora Champions Award in 2026. Building on past editions of the award that have celebrated outstanding contributions by members of the African diaspora and diaspora-focused organisations, this prestigious event recognises individuals and institutions whose work has advanced innovation, leadership, community impact, and global collaboration across sectors such as business, education, technology, arts, and public service. The Awards provide a platform to honour excellence, foster networking, and amplify the positive influence of diaspora champions worldwide, aligning with the Institute’s mission to strengthen diaspora connections and catalyse sustainable development outcomes.
Speaking on the upcoming event, Prince Roy Akinwale Ojomo, Chief Engagement Officer of the Diaspora Innovation Institute, emphasised the importance of celebrating diaspora achievements: “The Diaspora Champions Award is more than a recognition — it is a platform to affirm the global influence of our diaspora innovators, to inspire new generations, and to strengthen connections that drive transformative impact across continents.” Prince Ojomo has long championed diaspora engagement as a catalyst for development, leveraging the Institute’s global network to promote collaboration, entrepreneurship, and knowledge exchange
