ONIRETE’S FIFTH CORONATION ANNIVERSARY: SEN GBENGA DANIEL REFLECTS ON LEGACY

Former Ogun State Governor highlights enduring development initiatives and renewed prospects for the Olokola energy and maritime projects.

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, FNSE, FAEng, has expressed satisfaction that development initiatives conceived during his administration as Governor of Ogun State are gradually translating into renewed prospects for economic growth and infrastructural development.

Daniel made the remarks at the fifth coronation anniversary of His Royal Highness, Oba (Dr.) Abdul-Ganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Otufesojoye, Adetutu I, the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu.

Reflecting on his administration’s developmental vision more than two decades ago, the former governor emphasised the enduring importance of laying a solid foundation for projects capable of transforming communities and creating opportunities for future generations.

He particularly welcomed renewed momentum surrounding the proposed Olokola energy and maritime projects, following recent developments involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The Olokola project, conceived as a major energy and maritime development initiative, featured prominently in Daniel’s administration’s economic development agenda. His government established Gateway Oil and Gas Development Limited and pursued strategic partnerships to advance the project, including a groundbreaking ceremony to signal its commencement.

The renewed attention to the initiative underscores the potential long-term value of sustained investment in strategic infrastructure, energy and maritime development.

Daniel’s reflections at the royal anniversary celebration also highlighted a broader lesson in governance: that the impact of visionary leadership may extend well beyond an administration’s tenure, particularly when subsequent governments sustain and advance initiatives designed to deliver lasting public benefits.

For Irete-Ijebu and the wider Ogun State community, the occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate royal leadership while reflecting on the enduring relationship between development planning, policy continuity and the aspirations of future generations.
