The Ogun State Government has dismissed a viral letter purportedly nominating five princes for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool, insisting that the selection process remains suspended.
The government said the letter did not follow the legally recognised procedure for communicating the decision of kingmakers and urged the public to disregard it. The Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Rasheed Adesanya, in whose name the letter was allegedly written, also denied any involvement, while the Ijebu-Ode Local Government said it had no knowledge of the document.
The succession process was suspended in January following a wave of petitions, allegations of procedural irregularities, disputes over the eligibility of some contestants, and growing tension among stakeholders. The state government said security reports and concerns over due process made it necessary to halt the exercise pending a resolution of the controversies.

At least 95 candidates are currently vying for the position, and the selection process is being managed by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
